Grand Canyon, Arizona

September 8, 2008

This was our 7th visit to the Grand Canyon. We first visited it while still living in New York state back in 2001. We brought and showed the Canyon to a lot of people, this time it was my cousin's turn to see the massive beauty. We saw the Grand Canyon in snow, rain and shine. This time around, the weather was especially photo friendly with nice overcast and beautiful shadows deep into the canyon.

We left the house Tuesday night after a hectic day at work for Wayne and a hectic day of fun for Olya with her sister and cousin in old town Scottsdale. We made it to Flagstaff by 11 PM and the next morning on September 9th 2008 we took a scenic drive to the Grand Canyon.

We arrived at the Grand Canyon National Park around 10 am and not far from the entrance to the park there were 3 elks feeding by the road. Lots of visitors were snapping pictures of them as seen on the pictures.

The canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, ranges in width from 4 to 18 miles (6.4 to 29 km) and attains a depth of more than a mile (1.6 km). Prior to European emigration, the area was inhabited byNative Americans who built settlements within the canyon and its many caves.
